This exercise in continuity and links between geometry and form, both digitally and in 3D printed objects, took inspiration from the Surrealist tradition of the cadavre exquis (exquisite corpse). Alternating two different objects with a colleague, each week involved the addition and attachment of a 3D printed object to the other person's form from the previous week. The exchange also included a specified 2D gasket geometry on which to link the next form and a digital file to model the subsequent printed object.
Restricted to the use of clean, clearly described geometry with developable surfaces, the focus was on the approach to continuity from the other person's work. Keeping consistent dimensions and geometry or breaking from the previously set precedent, formulating a shared formal language between you and your colleague or juxtaposing the attachments to read as an amalgamation, and choosing between dissonance and consonance in style were all considerations in how to develop the exquisite forms.
The results were two very distinct forms.
