Architecture in Acts of Denial
To discover grounds for contemporary design that recognizes and validates attributes and events of a place or site, the technology seminar turned to political theorists and researchers to guide the creative exercise. Set in Mitrovicë, Kosova, and more specifically along the River Ibër, the political context as one of the world's newest nations which suffered an ethnic war and the riverside site being the location of mass discovered and undiscovered mass graves with claims of massacre denial all informed the conceptualization of the project.
Focusing on compositional logic applied to lenses of human/non-human, fictitious/real, violent/aggressive, and lyrical/cognitive subject matter, the small scale proposals were primarily designed using ZBrush and Maya (also for animation). This concept of two fallen stars are meant to evoke emotions of resilience and guidance in spite of conflict. The symbolic nature of a star collides with the sharp and violent surface texture and the stars lie in wreckage on the ground. Yet, their emblem and power is not lost.
