Set in the French countryside, this project examines the aesthetics of the countryside, the case history of French interiors, and methods of stark juxtaposition between tradition and its departure. This is done through a careful dissection of the existing château to reveal moments hidden inside and creating a reveal. Contrasting metallic materials in new surface areas also serve to visually diverge from the architectural folklore of the French countryside.
Programmatically, the château currently functions as a boutique hotel operated by Karma Group. This proposal maintains its classification in the segmentation of the château, with each of three volumes extracted from the original structure containing all the necessary elements to become its own hotel unit, and by creating new dwellings in the existing but abandoned barn nearby. The shell of the barn is also thought of as an already inverted interior space, and so these new units are pushed from the inside out.
